Chocobo Treasures

Treasure Hunting!

Once you have found chocographs, you can go hunting while on Choco. Just press Triangle and select “Open Chocograph menu.” Next, select the treasure you want to search for. Now, when you are on the main world screen (and riding choco, obviously) you can press square to have choco search for a treasure. As he gets closer to the treasures, his “kweh” becomes more and more adamant. Not all SystemTreasure map found through Chocobo Hot and Cold. Many unlock major FF9 rewards. treasures are accessible when you first find them - see the availability sections below so you don’t waste time looking for something you can’t get yet.

After Chocobo’s Forest (First Visit)

While you may have found up to 9 Chocographs in your first round of Choco Hot and Cold, only two are accessible just yet:

Streamside

Very close to Chocobo Forest. Search near the river’s outlet on the other side of the little bridge. Call Choco from the tracks near Chocobo’s Forest.

Between Mountains

Head west from the Streamside SystemTreasure map found through Chocobo Hot and Cold. Many unlock major FF9 rewards. treasure. When you hit the water, turn south. Call Choco from the tracks near Chocobo’s Forest.

After Passing Through Gizamaluke’s Grotto

This is the first SystemTreasure map found through Chocobo Hot and Cold. Many unlock major FF9 rewards. cleanup window where the game is happy to let you carry treasure maps you absolutely could not use five minutes ago. Start with Healing Shore, because that is what gives Choco the Reef ability, then scoop up the two Reef treasures that are still available before you go through Qu’s Marsh toward the Outer Continent.

Healing Shore

Unlocks: Reef

Due north of Cleyra, between the mountains and by the beach, though not on the shore itself. Call Choco from the tracks near Cleyra. This treasure teaches Choco the Reef ability.

Reward: Choco learns the Reef ability ()

Bird’s Eye Lagoon

Ability: Reef

After getting the Reef ability, pop back through Gizamaluke’s Grotto and call Choco with ItemUsed to call Choco in the field; cures Berserk in battle. on the tracks just south of Qu’s Marsh. Head west past Qu’s Marsh, slightly south, and out onto the reefs. Just past the furthest tiny island, you’ll find the Bird’s Eye Lagoon treasure.

Small Beach

Ability: Reef

After getting Bird’s Eye Lagoon, head back to Chocobo’s Forest and use the beach there to enter the reef, heading southeast along the shore until you come to the end of the peninsula. There’s a small island off the tip of the peninsula with a beach. The chest is on the beach, not in the water.

After Completing Fossil Roo

When you come out of Fossil Roo on the Outer Continent, you get one more SystemTreasure map found through Chocobo Hot and Cold. Many unlock major FF9 rewards. treasure you can clean up before settling into the next stretch of story.

Abandoned Beach

Call Choco from the tracks just east of Qu’s Marsh on the Outer Continent. Search the ground near the entrance to Black Mage Village’s forest, by the shore in the grassy area.

After Acquiring the Blue Narciss

This is the big Chocobo cleanup stretch. The Blue Narciss lets you reach Chocobo’s Lagoon and a lot more of the ItemIt's your map. Do I have to say anything else? You can, like, look at it to see where you are... And stuff..., so this is where Choco can chain from basic treasure hunting into Mountain and Ocean travel.

The following Chocograph is available as soon as you have the Blue Narciss and can reach the Lost Continent.

Cold Field

Head to the Lost Continent and call Choco at the tracks just east of Esto Gaza. The SystemTreasure map found through Chocobo Hot and Cold. Many unlock major FF9 rewards. spot is a few steps east and slightly south of the tracks.

Faraway Lagoon

Ability: Reef

Call Choco at the tracks on the island west of the Forgotten Continent. Head to the east coast, inside the lagoon, of the Forgotten Continent. Search all the little fjords.

Abandoned Lagoon

Ability: Reef

Around the western shoreline near where Fossil Roo comes out on the Outer Continent, there is a beach with a forest and tracks. Call Choco at the tracks and head west along the reef until you get to the weird peninsula way south of the Conde Petie paths. It’s in the cove.

Dawn Lagoon

Unlocks: Mountain

From the tracks outside of Chocobo’s Forest, take Choco east along the southern edge of the continent. Jump into the water south of Treno and search around the island in the tiny bay due south of Treno.

Reward: Choco gains the Mountain ability ()

After Dawn Lagoon unlocks the Mountain ability, go dig these up, then revisit Chocobo's Forest for the next batch.

Don't Miss: Choco can also start digging up Dead Peppers now, which means the Bubbles and Cracks cleanup path is officially on the board.

Uncultivated Land

Ability: Mountain

When you first get the Mountain ability, point Choco toward the Evil Forest. You can now go over mountains to get here. Search a little south of Alexandria in the patch of marsh-looking soil.

Forbidden Forest

Ability: Mountain

From the top of South Gate, follow the ridgeline north and west. Search in the forest at the bottom of all the mountain ranges.

Green Plains

Unlocks: Ocean

On a plateau where a line going north from the Ice Cavern would meet one going west from the Evil Forest. It’s on the grassy plain that doesn’t have a tree. Search along the edge bordering the mountain going up.

Reward: Choco learns the Ocean ability ()

After Green Plains unlocks the Ocean ability, use the deeper areas of Chocobo's Lagoon and turn the ocean Chocographs from rude little IOUs into real errands.

Forgotten Lagoon

Ability: Ocean

South of Esto Gaza, along the coast of the Forgotten Continent.

Sea At Dusk

Ability: Ocean

Head west from Cleyra until the screen turns darker. Search the ocean areas where a picture matches the SystemTreasure map found through Chocobo Hot and Cold. Many unlock major FF9 rewards..

Ocean

Ability: Ocean

Along the western edge of the Forgotten Continent, in the deep sea far, far west of Cleyra.

Cold Lagoon

Ability: Ocean

Along the northern coast of the Lost Continent is a fjord east and north of Esto Gaza.

When First Sent to the Forgotten Continent

When the story sends you to the Forgotten Continent, you can grab the last Mountain SystemTreasure map found through Chocobo Hot and Cold. Many unlock major FF9 rewards. treasures before moving on. Not bad for what is otherwise a deeply suspicious field trip.

Dusk Plains

Ability: Mountain

Head due west from Oeilvert and south from the final crack. Of the four levels to the ground, search on the second one tucked inside the other.

Forgotten Plains

Ability: Mountain

When you first end up on the Forgotten Continent, go north and slightly west to find chocobo tracks. From there, head west and a little south. You’ll see two tiny patches of green and a lot of desert. Search the mid-level plateau near the grasslands.

After Acquiring the Airship

Once you have the airship, go back through the SystemTreasure map found through Chocobo Hot and Cold. Many unlock major FF9 rewards. Pieces cleanup so Choco can find Mist Ocean. That unlocks the Fly ability and finally turns the sky Chocographs into something other than future-you homework.

The following Chocograph is available once you have the airship and obtain the remaining Chocograph Pieces.

Mist Ocean

Unlocks: Fly

Swim to the two islands off the northeastern coast of the Mist Continent, due north of Alexandria Harbor.

Reward: Choco learns the Fly ability ()

After Mist Ocean unlocks the Fly ability, these sky Chocographs are available.

Outer Island

Ability: Fly

Fly Choco to the island east from Kuja’s Palace. Search the northern area of the island.

Fly Choco to the small island due east from Madain Sari and north from Kuja’s Desert Palace. Search the edge of the forest on the southern side.

Fairy Island

Fly Choco to the island just north of the center of the map. It’s got one HUGE mountain in it. You can’t miss it. Search along the base of the eastern face of the mountain.
